Mobile
phone users in China may have reached 1 billion, but it seems a billion people
must wait years before they enjoy the services of 4G. In discussions with local
TV a few days ago, Minister for Information Technology Industry of China, Miao
Wei said China will wait for the next 2-3 years to obtain a license from the
LTE TDD 4G.
Wei
said that his country hopes to expand their network of TD-SCDMA base station
220 thousand to 400 thousand, and its upgrade to LTE TDD 4G license before
offering. He anticipates that the project would take about 3 years until it was
completed.
Operator
China Mobile is the main driving force behind the development of LTE TDD, but
Wei cites chips that support and software vendors are also appreciable. He says
the government needs their active participation to accelerate the development
of 4G trial to commercial.
