Although
the smartphone market is experiencing rapid growth as much as 41 percent from
year to year, only two vendors who truly enjoy the growth of the Samsung and
Apple. According to market researcher, ABI, both of them accounts for 55
percent of global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of this year and
enjoy a 90 per cent of profits in the smartphone industry.
Surprisingly
enough, Samsung and Sony are the two OEMs are enjoying continuous growth in
terms of shipments. Even more surprising in RIM's growth through the Nokia, even
though they decreased in shipments, RIM's 20 percent and Nokia 40 percent.
In
the first quarter of 2012, Samsung is in the top spot with 43 million
shipments, followed by Apple with the number 35 million, Nokia (11.9 million),
RIM (11.1 million), Sony (7 million), and Huawei (6.8 million).
Nokia
have struggled lately, after removal of Symbian and is in transition to the
mobile operating system Microsoft Windows Phone. Thus was the case with RIM,
trying hard to get up with BB10. ABI senior analyst stated, this year Nokia and
Windows Phone they have to grow up to 5000% just to offset the decline in
shipments of Symbian devices.
