Broadcom
plans to bring Wi-Fi IEEE standard 802.11ac for smartphones and other mobile
devices starting early next year. Through the chipset that was introduced on
Tuesday (7/24/2012) yesterday, the company claims can deliver speeds of about
400Mbps. But in general use, the speed is 300Mbps range. Indeed 802.11ac
standard is claimed to speed up brings over gigabyte 1000Mbps or the unit, but
for mobile devices is rumored not to scale.
802.11ac
standard is the 5th generation Wi-Fi. These standards are designed able to
bring 3 to 4 times the capacity of the 802.11n standard. This new standard has
not received official permission, and Wi-Fi Alliance will start giving
certificates to target the early quarter of 2013.
According
to Michael Hurlston, senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom, the
chip is targeted based 11ac already on the market early next year. He said that
the chipset is likely to be using 50% premium component of 802.11n. 802.11ac
standards are also more power efficient than the previous standard 6x.
