Advanced
Micro Devices (AMD) introduced a new processor single socket platform. AMD
Opteron 3200, AMD's latest server processors intended for web hosting service
providers.
The
processor is said to offer performance of up to 60% better and uses 19% of power
consumption per core.
Patrick
Patla, vice president and general manager of AMD's commercial business unit,
promised in his speech that the customer will have 'all the benefits of
server-class products with desktop-class prices.'
Here
are the specifications:
- 45W to 65W TDP
- 2.7 GHz base frequency, up to 3.7 GHz frequency using AMD Turbo CORE technology
- Two DDR3 memory channels supporting the ECC UDIMM
- 1333, 1600, 1866 MHz memory speedvi
- Supports 1.5V, 2Rank
- Up to 32GB of memory capacity
- Supports up to 2 DIMMs per memory channel
- Total Cache: 16MB for 8-core, 8MB for 4-core
- L2 Cache: up to 8MB of total
- L3 Cache: up to 8MB of total
Available
in 4 or 8-core, AMD Opteron 3200 Series processors can be ordered starting
today. Integrated with the platform from MSI, Tyan, Fujitsu and Dell, including
the Fujitsu 3000 Series MX130 server below.
